The University of Wisconsin Chapter of the Roosevelt Institution is the leading student policy voice on the UW-Madison campus. We are a student organized and run think-tank, and serve two basic functions.

  • First, we develop and run events designed to inform and educate both the campus and larger Madison community. In the past, we have:
    • Organized a debate between the two Madison mayor candidates
    • Ran a debate between the Dane County District 5 Board of Supervisors candidates
    • Put on the Roosevelt | Energy conference. It was a two day event held at the Capitol and we brought experts from around the country to discuss the energy and environment issues that plague our nation and their potential solutions. The event was broadcast on television and covered by Wisconsin Public Radio.

  • Our second major function is to research, write, and present policy proposals developed by our members. UW-Roosevelt’s past accomplishments include:
    • Proposing a healthcare reform bill to the Wisconsin Assembly
    • Presenting a plan to increase Wisconsin entrepreneurship by expanding the state’s venture capital tax credit to the Wisconsin Deputy Secretary of Commerce.
    • Working with the Center for State Innovation to create policy pieces that will be published and distributed to every state government in the country.
